Solar Awnings at the Moonrise Hotel

Lawrence partnered with Microgrid Energy to install a solar awning on the Rooftop Terrace Bar at the Moonrise Hotel. The awning provides cover from the elements while powering the Rooftop Bar. Translucent solar modules were utilized to produce power on both sides of the module, so that reflected light can be used to generate power also. The translucent solar modules give the awning a cool look and provide light below the awning.

The use of translucent modules is part of a new trend to incorporate solar power as an integrated design element in buildings and structures. The preferred industry term for this is Building Integrated Photovoltaics or BIPV.
